The Washington Literacy Center (WLC) was proud to join the Resource Fair hosted by Wellpoint (formerly Amerigroup DC) and partner Per Scholas, connecting District residents with training, jobs, and other community resources. The event brought together more than 25 community organizations, employers, and education providers.

Jimmie Williams, WLC President & CEO, and Terrell Danley, Senior Program Director, shared information on WLC’s adult-literacy workforce pathways, including:

  • JumpStart to Success — a bridge program that helps adults re-enter learning and prepare for work; and

  • Learning Skills for Life (Bartending) — an intensive, industry-recognized program that combines bartending with financial literacy, life-skills management, and small-business fundamentals.

Attendees stopped by our table for conversations, "Get Lit" T-shirts, and complimentary copies of Walking in My Joy in These Streets by actress Jenifer Lewis (Black-ish).

“We appreciate our partnership with Wellpoint to expand opportunities for DC residents,” said Jimmie Williams.“We look forward to providing education and training that lead to employment for our learners,” added Terrell Danley.

Thank you, Wellpoint and Per Scholas, for hosting a well-attended, solutions-oriented event that helps adults take the next step toward family-sustaining careers.
