The Washington Literacy Center is a dedicated nonprofit organization that empowers adults through literacy education and workforce development. Through our workforce development programs, we equip our learners with the tools and confidence they need to secure meaningful employment and thrive in today’s job market. With a passionate team of educators, volunteers, donors, and support from our valued corporate and community partners, we strive to create a supportive learning environment that transforms lives and strengthens our community.

Our mission is to empower adults with the foundational reading, math, digital, and life skills needed to succeed in today’s workforce and beyond. Through innovative, tailored instruction, we build confidence, support job readiness, and prepare learners for meaningful work, lifelong learning, and greater independence.

Established to address literacy challenges in the DC community, WLC is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping adults improve their reading, math, and digital literacy skills.


The Washington Literacy Center remains committed to its original mission of improving literacy in the District of Columbia. However, our vision has expanded to empower learners with the critical skills they need to thrive—whether in education, the workforce, or daily life. Through innovative programming, dedicated instructors, and a deep commitment to student success, WLC continues to be a leader in adult education and lifelong learning opportunities in the Washington, DC, community.
