Washington Literacy Center Welcomes New Board Members

The Washington Literacy Center (WLC) is pleased to announce the election of new members to its Board of Directors, further strengthening the organization’s leadership as it works to expand adult literacy, digital skills, and workforce opportunities across the District of Columbia. On Friday, November 14, the Board of Directors voted to approve the new slate of directors.

The newly elected board members are:

• Nelvin Adriatico-Thadhani, Vice President, Senior Business Banking, City National Bank

• Maria Ibañez, Adjunct Professor, Communication Studies, UDC / UMGC

• Adrian Jordan, President and CEO, Wellpoint DC

• Jayant Kairam, Vice President, Society for North America, Diageo Brands

• Ben Lowe, Vice President, CRESA

• ShaShrina Thomas, Senior Director, Federal Government Affairs, Reynolds American

With this group, we are welcoming a strong and capable Board determined to strengthen and enhance WLC’s future,” said Candace Cunningham, Chair of the Board of Directors. “They understand both the challenges and the opportunities ahead, and they are ready to roll up their sleeves, leverage their relationships, and champion the resources and partnerships WLC needs to grow.”

The expanded Board will focus on:

• Strengthening WLC’s long-term financial sustainability;

• Growing WLC’s workforce, digital skills, health, and financial literacy programs that connect adult learners to real employment and advancement; and

• Building innovative partnerships with employers, government, and community organizations across the region.

As WLC approaches its next chapter, the organization is positioning itself as a key partner in DC’s workforce ecosystem, ensuring that adults who were previously left behind by traditional education systems have a clear pathway to opportunity.
