Ripe Figs author Yasmin Khan + multicourse menu prepared by Zaytinya Concept Chef Michael Costa

Washington, DC – On Tuesday, May 4th @ 5pm, renowned Mediterranean chef and cookbook author Yasmin Khan will beam in virtually from London to launch her new cookbook, Ripe Figs: Recipes and Stories from Turkey, Greece, and Cyprus for a special book talk + food event, hosted by Politics & Prose in partnership with the Washington Literacy Center. Zaytinya’s Concept Chef Michael Costa selected recipes from Ripe Figs to create a mouth-watering multi course menu to enjoy during the event, which will be available for pick up or delivery via Tock for $55. The Mezze section will feature small portions of each item in a bento box and the main courses will be served hot with reheating instructions. The cut-off time to order the meal is 4:30pm on May 3rd for the May 4th event.

“We are grateful to Politics & Prose and Jose Andres’ wonderful team at Zaytinya and ThinkFoodGroup for contributing to an event that combines literacy, diversity and delicious food. We hope this event gives the newly vaccinated an opportunity to gather and enjoy the healing and joy we may have forgotten about over the past year when you combine good food, good friends…plus a fantastic new cookbook. And it’s just in time for spring!” said Washington Literacy Center President and CEO Jimmie Williams.

About the Washington Literacy Center

We began more than 50 years ago with a mission: to raise the literacy level of adults in Washington, D.C., so they may function on the job, in the family and in society. Starting off as an all-volunteer initiative, the WLC has grown into a dynamic nonprofit focused on teaching skills necessary to thrive in the 21st century. We help students overcome some of the most difficult challenges including dyslexia, reading, math, and other barriers to education.
