Instructor Spotlight: Amy Fingerhut

As an elementary educator in Shaker Heights, Ohio, teaching reading was always my favorite part of the day. When I moved to DC with my husband, and now high school age boys, I looked for a way to integrate into my new community. It took a few years, but I found the perfect opportunity at WLC. From the moment I read our mission statement, I was hooked.

I believe that the importance of being able to read fluently in today's society cannot be overstated. Adults who cannot read at a level of basic proficiency will always be disadvantaged - socially, emotionally and politically. I look forward to coming to work every day at WLC. I have the privilege of working with smart, compassionate, supportive educators and administrators. But the best moment of every day is when one of my students makes a discovery, solves a problem they have been grappling with, or helps me and their classmates see something differently. I see myself as a life-long learner and want my students to see themselves that way as well.
