IN OTHER WORDS.

Malcolm Pryor

Student

I am a graduate of WLC’s Learning Skills for Life program. Born and raised in Southeast DC., I’m a proud father of two sons and four daughters, with another son on the way. I think the Learning Skills for Life program has put me on the road to accomplish some of the life goals I have set for myself.

I always wanted a different opportunity because of the type of environment I came from. I always wanted to be different and, you know, achieve things for myself and for my family. Being a father is great, but it has some challenges...some ups and downs. But as a man, you know, I gotta’ to do what I gotta’ to do. I want to be an entrepreneur. I come from a family of entrepreneurs. I want my kids to be entrepreneurs. Show them how they can be their own boss.

I would say my favorite part of the program was just learning different tools to help you in the business and life. Getting to know new people. Meeting new people. That was good. We had a good class.

I liked doing some of other stuff as well. Of course, practicing making the drinks was crazy. Now I can tell the difference from how they make the drinks and pour amounts...stuff like that. When you know all the secrets behind it, it’s hard for me to really go to bars and stuff like that...unless it’s really good service.

Learning to be a mixologist was important, right. But I learned a lot from Mr. Terrell. His big thing was to be responsible. Ms. Ty was wonderful. Excellent teacher. I want to learn more from her about the bar business.

Also Mr. Stephen is a good guy. Learned a lot about financial literacy from him. He's a really good financial teacher. When he talked to us about credit, I didn't understand. I understood most of it, but he broke it down to me more. He was able to break it down for you better.

Employment wise, I've been doing my own bookings. I did two parties. I’ve also done a wedding.

I'm also starting up a mobile business. It’s called”Mix It Up Mobile DMV”.

I‘m working on stuff to get that ready, so I can start getting business closer to summertime. I'll be more pushing the marketing stuff like that. Making the right connections. Using my connections that I already have. Definitely gonna’ use what I learned from Mr. Terrell and Ms. Ty.
