Jimmie Williams
President & CEO
Jimmie Williams has served as President and CEO of the Washington Literacy Center (WLC) since 2016, leading one of the region’s most respected adult education and workforce development organizations. Under his leadership, WLC has expanded its reach and impact, empowering DC adults with the literacy, digital, and job readiness skills they need to gain meaningful employment, support their families, and achieve long-term self-sufficiency.
Before joining WLC, Jimmie built a distinguished career in public affairs, government relations, and brand strategy, holding senior roles at McDonald’s Corporation and Freddie Mac. There, he managed external affairs across local, state, federal, and international platforms, working at the intersection of policy, community engagement, and corporate responsibility.
He brings to WLC a sharp business acumen grounded in strategic communications, operational leadership, and cross-sector collaboration. Over the years, he has successfully convened and led partnerships with federal and local agencies, trade associations, philanthropic institutions, and grassroots organizations, always focusing on shared impact and sustainable progress.
Jimmie is a long-serving civic leader in Washington, DC. He serves as an Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner and Parliamentarian of the Ward 7 Education Council. He has also served as President of the Penn Branch Community Association and remains deeply engaged in local and regional advocacy to advance education, equity, and opportunity. Nationally, he is affiliated with the Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies (APAICS), where he previously served on the board and now serves on its National Advisory Council.
In recognition of his leadership and service, Jimmie received three community leadership awards in 2024, including two from local DC organizations and a national honor from APAICS.
He is a proud graduate of Howard University and resides in Ward 7, East of the River, with his family.
“My goal is simple: to help people move forward with dignity, opportunity, and the tools they need to succeed—not just for themselves, but for the next generation.”
