Washington Literacy Center, DIAGEO, and The Professional Bartending School is proud to offer a unique Bartender Training Scholarship Program called Learning Skills for Life. This program equips learners with the essential technical and interpersonal skills needed to thrive in service industries and other high-demand fields, offering targeted support even for adults with lower proficiency levels. The five-week program includes the development of Bartending, Life Skills, Financial Fitness, and Employment Readiness Skills.

 

PROGRAM DETAILS: 

  • STARTING DATE: April14, 2025

  • DURATION: April 14, 2025 - May 16, 2025

  • 5 WEEKS plus Job Placement Assistance 

  • MONDAY - FRIDAY 9:00 AM TO 2:00 PM 

  • 1 WEEK OF LIFE SKILLS DEVELOPMENT

  • 1 WEEK OF FINANCIAL FITNESS

  • 2 WEEKS OF BARTENDING TRAINING 

  • 1 WEEK OF EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS

 

LOCATION: WASHINGTON, DC (MCPHERSON SQUARE METRO STATION - ORANGE/SILVER LINE)

FREE BARTENDER TRAINING SCHOLARSHIP FOR NON-BARTENDERS

(this scholarship is for those seeking to enter the bartending industry)

We offer this scholarship as part of a national initiative to work with communities and individuals experiencing unemployment and financial difficulties. We are interested in applicants who are currently unemployed, underemployed, or experiencing financial hardship. You MUST meet the qualification criteria listed. All candidates will be interviewed.

This is a scholarship. There are NO FEES. You are responsible for your transportation, arriving on time, and 100% attendance.

 

QUALIFYING CRITERIA: 

  • Motivated with an interest in pursuing a career in Bartending 

  • 18 years of age or older 

  • Availability: MONDAY - FRIDAY from 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM

Learning Skills For Life Graduation Ceremony - February 7, 2025

 

Our 7th Learning Skills for Life Graduation was held last Friday, February 7th. It culminated an ongoing five-week intensive bartending and pre-employment experience designed to jumpstart participants’ career training, workforce readiness and employment opportunities. WLC offers this unique, no-cost learning opportunity in partnership with Diageo, one of the world's leading beverage companies, the Breakthru Beverage Group, and The Professional Bartending School, Inc. 

 

Thank you to our keynote speaker Thomas Penny, III,  Senior Vice President & President at Donohoe Hospitality and guest speakers: Salima T. Khalid, Associate Director Mayor's Office of Nightlife and Culture and Keia Johnson, Director of Strategic Partnerships at Diageo North America.
