2017 Congressional Baseball Game

The programs at the Washington Literacy Center have benefited from the support of the Congressional Baseball Game for more than 20 years. The bi-partisan event started over 100 years ago and most recently has become the Congressional Sports for Charity Foundation. Members of the United States Congress from each party come together to support DC area charities, and they have become friends of WLC.

The bipartisan event brought out thousands to Nationals Park on June 21 st to watch members of Congress take to the field. The normally fun-filled event took a more somber tone this year following a shooting at a team practice just days before the game. The Washington Literacy Center received strong support from donors nationwide as details about the shooting and the game became national news. WLC Executive Director, Jimmie Williams, spoke about the incident on Channel 9 News, and was featured on Fox News 5 DC morning news and highlighted how important the Charity has been in supporting adult literacy in the Washington Metropolitan area.
